Kelly Rowland still mad over sending text in Microsoft Excel in Dilemma

Kelly Rowland has finally addressed the viral moment she attempted to send a text message using an Excel spreadsheet in a 2000s music video.

Way back in 2002, the world was changed forever after the former Destiny’s Child member tried to send her boyfriend a message using a spreadsheet. Shocker, it didn’t work. But it didn’t mean the music star was ever able to swiftly move on from that blunder. We still remember it, Kelly, and we’re not forgetting it any time soon.

A moment we won’t soon forget

More than twenty years ago, Kelly, now 43, teamed up with American rapper Nelly for the iconic track, Dilemma. During the celebrity’s signature bridge, while standing in the window, she flipped open her phone to send a text message using a spreadsheet on Microsoft Excel.

Despite being made literally decades ago, the 3-second clip has solidified itself in the pop culture hall of fame. It’s still regularly rolled out in meme form across Instagram, TikTok and Twitter.

While appearing on Mystical Kitchen show this week, Kelly laughed off the moment while also admitting she was still low-key “mad” about it.

“The only person in history to successfully send a text message using Microsoft Excel, Kelly Rowland welcome to the show,” host Josh Scherer said with a chuckle, sparking Kelly’s own laugh.

“Oh my gosh, do you know how much flack I get from that?” she replied.

When Josh asked if anyone told her at the time, the mum of two said: “No, and I’m actually mad at them that they didn’t because they made me look nuts.”

She also argued her character in the video had no business getting angry over her lack of reply, given she actually hadn’t sent a message.

Josh then revealed there is a way to send a message via Microsoft Excel, so technically, Kelly was just ahead of her time.

Fans are still obsessed with the Kelly Rowland Excel blunder

Since posting, the Mystial Kitchen video has accumulated nearly 300k views as many fans flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.

“The fact that Microsoft hasn’t used Kelly Rowland for an Excel marketing advertisement is a missed opportunity,” someone pointed out.

Someone else asked: “But why did they actually make her text in Excel is the question we want an answer to.”

“That was a huge pop culture moment hahaha Kelly the Excel Goddess,” a third argued.
